MORE Shame on Trey Radel

I saw a post this morning on the Congressman Trey Radel facebook page.

"Nannette Durix Kegan - While you are at it demand that all those "vigilant" cameras are taken down on our city streets and our neighborhood streets. We are not criminals. We do not request such intrusion into our lives. Demand that the surveillance cameras everywhere in Florida be dismanteled. WAKE UP AMERIKA LOOK UP, LOOK EVERYWHERE. There are more cameras on our roads than in communist countries."

I think it's completely irresponsible for the Congressman to ignore a post like this, which only feeds the paranoia. With that being said, I'd like to respond.

The Red Light camera's in Naples have been shut down - That has been well reported.

As for the camera's in Lee County - I recently took a tour of Lee County Department of Transportation, where they explained the camera's you see at intersections are sensor camera's for live feed and only to control the traffic lights. They do not record or keep any footage. They help to keep our traffic flowing and/or control area's where there may be congestion due to a special event or traffic accident.

If you've ever wondered why you might be sitting at a traffic light for several minutes when there is no other traffic; It's because you're not in the camera's sight. Those camera's are responsible for turning the light green so you can move through the intersection.

DID YOU KNOW... The traffic patterns in Lee County are also followed by the movement of smart phones with a GPS feature.
